For generations, the Meriwethers and Crippedahls have defended the big woods from the Grizzelwolfs: hell-born creatures who kill without mercy.
Now, it's the year 1737 and Manfred Meriwether is pushing sixty. He walks with a cane on the leg Florence Grizzelwolf shattered years ago, and watches his enemies close in. With the Meriwether and Crippedahl families all but exterminated, Manfred and his wife, Lucette, devise one final gamble: he will tether himself to a stake, tempt Florence, the queen of the Grizzelwolfs, into combat and finish a feud more than a century old.
If he succeeds, the Grizzelwolfs’ murderous campaign against mankind may finally be broken. But as redcoats and border violence bring new dangers, it looks unlikely that everything will go according to plan.
